Stories of Transformation

I am writing to thank you once again for the tremendous First Sight eyeglasses kit that you put together. I was in central Kenya recently with Dr. Vicky Beemer, using a kit that she ordered from you recently to help high school aged kids see better. We sorely underestimated the need and used almost all of the original kit and one that was left over from when I was screening kids in another location there about 2-3 years ago. Kids were coming from nearly 30 miles away to be fitted so that they could see the blackboard! We have arranged for this service to be ongoing with the local Kenyans in charge and soon I will be ordering more supplies from you, but for now, I just want to thank you for a great service tool that benefits so many people. I appreciate you!

Meet Samira from rural Uganda, whose life was transformed when she received her First Sight eyeglasses. For years, Samira struggled to see the blackboard clearly in her classroom, causing her grades to suffer. However, after a simple eye examination and the provision of First Sight eyeglasses, Samira's grades improved significantly. She now aspires to become a teacher and inspire other children to reach their full potential.

Another inspiring story comes from Ramon, a hardworking farmer in the Philippines. For years, Ramon battled blurry vision, which made it challenging for him to work effectively on his farm. With the help of First Sight, Ramon received a pair of eyeglasses that allowed him to see clearly again. With newfound clarity, his farm's productivity increased, leading to improved livelihood for his family and the entire community

Our experience with the First Sight kit was transformative for many of the elderly people we served. They were so excited to be able to see and read. The women asked for the chance to pray for us and our work, they felt so blessed to be able to read. The kit was easy to understand and to teach to individuals with limited medical backgrounds. They quickly became proficient and were excited to help with the screening process and with creation of the glasses. It was very satisfying to screen patients and provide glasses within about 10 minutes

We used First Sight’s eyeglass kit to test and fit 175 women and children with glasses. The kit was easy to use, and we were able to train two Ugandan women, so that they could continue providing this eyeglass services even after Project Have Hope’s volunteers returned to the United States. First Sight’s eye kits are a great solution to making basic vision a reality for so many families in the Acholi Quarter in Uganda. Thanks for creating such a great product!

Your donation of eyeglasses made a significant impact in the community of Flores, Honduras. For many people, it was the first eye exam they had or the first pair of glasses they owned. Offering people, the gift of sight was such a heart-warming experience. People were simply in awe of being able to read their bibles and other materials, and to see friends at a distance

First Sight company offers a simple and effective way to provide eye care to rural areas of the country…Working with First Sight kit I found it was relatively easy to issue eyeglasses for people who have minor single farsightedness, near sightedness. This kit would be a wonderful tool to serve the poor and individuals who have no other access to improved vision

First Sight is highly effective in detecting and correcting refractive errors and delivers results comparable to the gold standard of manifest refraction. The technique holds promise in its ability to treat refractive error reliably and cost-effectively, even in the hands of non-ophthalmic personnel.

Uncorrected refractive error has been documented as the leading cause of visual impairment globally with enormous social and economic outcomes, limiting educational opportunities for children and consequently, translating to poverty. Seventy-eight individuals (mean age of 12 and 44 in children and adults respectively) were fitted with distance prescription supplied by First Sight. 100% of the participants showed improved visual acuity period of those patients 64% were female and 36% were male. In Guatemala the common condition associated with refractive error was a family history of visual difficulties. Individuals benefited from the use of low-cost equipment and distribution of First Sight eyeglasses costing less than $4.50 to correct visual acuity
